For this project, my group was to come together to discuss and find information and then use it to devise a scavenger hunt game in Greenwich SE10. In the first group meeting, everybody was set to research one of the following types of resources: gallery, museum, Library, green space, building of architectural significance and shop or supplier of material with particular application to your pathway. My duty was to research the galleries in Greenwich. We decided once we gather all the information we can find then we meet up again to discuss in detail about setting up the game.
What I found interesting about Greenwich is that it is the place defines both time and location for the whole world. All time is measured relative to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and all places have a Latitude (their distance North or South of the Equator) and longitude (their distance East or West of the Greenwich Meridian!). Greenwich is the start point of the world. I also found out that Greenwich is the birthplace of Henry VIII and his famous daughters Queen Mary & Queen Elizabeth I. When I first visited Greenwich, I found 4 galleries and some other interesting places in Greenwich including the Royal Observatory and National Maritime Museum. The galleries in Greenwich are generally small but with very unique individual style such as prints, painting, collages and etc. I took pictures of each gallery so they can be used in making the game.
It was quite hard to coordinate 9 people and find the time which everybody is free. We tried to divide the work to parts so people can finish it at their spare time. When we finally get together, we started discussing tasks in the games. We talked about many ways to make the game more interesting such as digging hole in the park and hide the leads in the hole, make the other team to be at a specific telephone booth at the right time and wait for us to call and tell them what happens next, hiding the lead to the next task in a book in the library and tell them to search for the book, etc. Unfortunately only one of them was used in the finishing game since the other ways of telling lead can easily be destroyed by anybody who would use that service in Greenwich. During the time we were devising the game, I realised that encouraging your teammates and try to understand their position is essential in good teamwork. We often have disagreement and different opinion from time to time. But we did not ignore others; we tried to perform as a team by considering different suggestion seriously. It was a success that we finished the game on time at a satisfying standard.
If I were to be involved in a group project again I would work harder to find more useful and specific information for my part so the team will take my opinion without doubting. I would keep in touch with my teammates more so I am always updated with the stage they are working at. Since I am studying a course which requires strong team work, I think this was a great experience for introducing me to my study.
